Okay, guys, the evidence we collected during our first real residential investigation is now posted at our website!! Click Here to see it!
I also enabled comments on our website that are really easy to use, so please please please comment on our evidence and let us know what you think!
We've also started a new experiment, to test the validity of using a pendulum to communicate with a spirit.
It's going to be a long-running experiment, because the only way to test this is through statistical analysis, and we need a LOT of data to do that. So here's the idea.
Every time we do an investigation for someone, we give them a pendulum, notebook, and lesson on how to use it. We have them spend the next few months using the pendulum. Anytime they see or feel or hear activity going on, they can pull out their pendulum and ask some questions and see if they can get any yes/no answers.
Then, after they have a notebook full of questions that they've asked, we can come back and do a second session. First, we would do our own pendulum session, asking the same questions they asked but NOT KNOWING what answers they got. We can then compare and see how many times our answers correlate with theirs. We would also then do a recorder session, asking the same yes or no questions, and see if any voices we get answering the questions correlate with the answers from the pendulums.
Usually with a pendulum, swinging clockwise represents one answer, and swinging counter-clockwise represents the other. (Yes/no). So, if there's nothing to it and it's random, our answers should agree fifty percent of the time. If we were just comparing our answers to one other person's and we agreed 90 percent of the time, that'd be interesting, but still could just be a fluke. But if we got 50 people doing this around the state, and then we went and did our own sessions, and each time our answers agreed 90 percent of the time...well that would indicate some kind of correlation.
Like I said, aside from correlating our pendulum answers with theirs, we would also try EVP sessions. We'd ask the same questions and see if any voices answer yes or no. If they do, we could then compare those answers to the pendulum answers as well.
Now, we KNOW when someone uses a pendulum, the direction it swings is being controlled by the tremors and subconscious micro-movements in their hand. That is clear. The question is whether your subconscious mind KNOWS the answers to the questions you're asking.
Our theory is that, since so much information picked up by your subconscious is filtered before ever reaching your conscious mind, perhaps your subconscious does know the answer, because it can communicate perfectly fine with spirits. Given that the paranormal world, if it exists, obviously does not really interact with ours in obvious ways, it's easy to imagine it might be part of that pool of information which the subconscious mind deems unnecessary. Which is why we don't consciously perceive it. But that doesn't mean our subconscious doesn't perceive it. If it does, then perhaps that's how accurate answers might come out of a pendulum.
Or pendulum answers might be nonsense. Hopefully this experiment will help give us a better idea. By itself, it won't be able to prove one way or another that a pendulum is a way to communicate with spirits. But, depending on the data, it may indicate whether or not it's not an accurate and consistent way to get answers.
I'm excited :D

deed registries, genealogy, research, WHAT?
So I just wrote up a 2 page history of this house we investigated, and I feel like a pro. I can do research, woot!!
Oh and we take the evidence to the family tomorrow, so after that we can put it online for you all. We got one EVP that's especially awesome.
Yay for learning how to do new things!

Yay for debunking stuff
Edit to our last post:
The EVP called CannotComeThrough has been debunked! When we took it back to Patti to verify that there was nothing in her shop that could have made the voice, she said that she had actually been playing back a recording while calibrating her little device. We didn't realize it at the time, but the voice could very well be something that was on the other recording she was playing back, so we're no longer considering that one evidence.
Yay, progress!

Evidence and Experiments!
So...it's been a while. I know. I suck.
BUT, to be fair, there hasn't been much going on. With Lori a student and me a writer...well, we don't exactly have money, and we've had trouble finding places to investigate that aren't private properties that charge. We've also had trouble finding time.
but THAT is about to end because I got a second job and spring break is coming up!
We have also been joined by a brilliant and awesome new member, Robin! She is a chemistry major, like Lori, and they're in many of the same classes. I'll let her introduce herself later though.
What I wanted to post about was this:
1) Over spring break, we are going back to the Talbott Inn. You know, where we had a flashlight, which was turned COMPLETELY off (none of that twisting the cap halfway between on and off cheater stuff) turn on and off by itself, without ever turning to the on position, in response to our questions? Well, we've fixed up our lightbulb experiment to be controlled and pretty and actually very useful to test out certain aspects of a spirit's composition.
Like how big is it? How far can it conduct electricity? CAN it conduct electricity? Can it produce its own power? How many volts can it produce?
All questions we intend to answer with this experiment, though we won't be able to answer them all in one night. We are super excited.
2) We have new evidence. For a test run before going to the Talbott again (because it costs money and as much as we love it, we can't afford to go every weekend), we took our set up to Patti's ghost hunter shop, the same place we got the cool video of the flying orb that turns into a head. And while we didn't get any interaction with our experiment, we did find a couple extremely clear EVPs while going through the audio afterward. Check them out.
In this one you'll hear Lori offer the recorder as an alternate means of communication, then Patti tells Chuck he forgot to turn the phone off, then you'll hear a voice. We think we know what it says, but what do you think??
Here it is again with the voice amplified.
We hear the name Jacob, but if you heard something different (or nothing at all) please leave us a message and tell us! After all, peer review is necessary to any good research.
The second EVP we got happened a little later. Patti was holding the recorder out over the table, where she tends to get most activity, asking spirits to "come through for us." She was also running a transmitter that picks up radio frequencies, but as you can hear, it had already been set up so that it was not hitting any radio stations. For the entire time it runs, there are no voices, music, or anything other than pure static. Then, while she is explaining what she's doing, the interference noises stop entirely and a very clear voice speaks over Patti's voice. We did not hear this voice with our natural ears.
I personally am not a fan at all of Spiritvox's "Ghost box" tool because it cycles through all the radio frequencies very rapidly, meaning it DOES pick up radio stations, and the chance of getting a few random words from radio stations that together sound like a message is just far too high for my taste. But this tool she was using was not the same thing. It didn't cycle through frequencies, but instead focused on one radio frequency that was not transmitting anything else. What do you hear it say? Listen right where Patti is saying "while we're doing this..."
We'd love feedback any and all the time, so leave us comments or send us a message with your thoughts!
